- The team here was very helpful in making the payment for the visa appointment.
- Make sure you have enough Mexican pesos with you for tipping, local shopping $600-800 US dollars should be enough (mostly some nice change of 10,20 pesos)
- We experienced communication problem as not a lot of people talk or understand English
- At biometrics, we had to wait for almost 30 – 40 mins ( so be prepared to wait on the road footpath until they call your time slot and guards don’t understand English so please be prepared to tell times in Spanish)
- Visa officer asked when do you plan to return, we took this opportunity to tell the officer we plan to return early if passport is return earlier. Officer told the earliest we will get the passport is in 2 days. So, we got the passport in 2 days. If there is any urgency may be you can request earlier
- We booked our flight from Newark to Merida with ~ 1.5 hrs layover in Miami there is no direct flight to Merida at least from Newark. This caused some issues on return, as we have to do immigration and bag recheck and security check in ~ 1.5 to 2 hrs. We made it but it was challenging. Another option is to fly to Cancun and drive 4-5 hours to Merida but again it’s a bit risky to rent a car and drive and all.
