MANDATORY CHECKLIST BEFORE YOU PLAN : UPDATED : Sep 15th 2020
If your passport validity is less than 6 months, better to renew it & then plan for stamping (In some cases – If you plan to go with passport less than 6 months validity, consulate might not process your visa)
If your visa stamp in passport is still valid > 90 days from now, better to go for next visa renewal stamping once current valid visa is expiring within 90 days.
Note: If your profile is clear without any issues with law or DUI etc., in the past years, you can plan for your US Visa 1st time Stamping in Mexico or visa renewal stamping in any locations without any issues.
(Based on the previous folks whom we helped, we created below checklist that can be helpful for upcoming folks who are planning to come to any location in Mexico. (As of Jan 22nd 2020) ;
1) Are you are working as Contractor (EC, EVC, EVVC, EVVVC Model) ?
Do you have client letter ? (Client Letter is Mandatory from May 7th 2019, Lack of that might result in 221g & you might end up 1-3 weeks or even more in Mexico + you need to go through a lot of hassle, so better not to come without client letter ), Its hit or miss depends on the VO if you don’t have client letter. Some asks for it, some don’t. Things changed from 2018 to 2019. so always come with client letter as much as possible. Please check Recent 221g’s due to lack of client letter.
Recently(Mar 2019) 1 guy has to go to India due to lack of client letter too due to their client policy(Client could not respond to the consulate upon request from US consulate), That guy took 1 time visa waiver and entered into US & flew to India,.
Another guy attended visa interview on Apr 6th 2019, got 221g due to lack of client letter, cleared 221g on Apr 26th 2019( 3 weeks) after escalation at his client location from his manager & submitting client communication etc., & additional documentation, but took 3 weeks to clear 221g.
NOTE : In Matamoros, Some officers are asking for mandatory client letter & some officers are not asking for it, so it’s 50-50 chances of approval without any issues due to lack of client letter.
2) If you don’t have any of the below valid visa / visitors visa ?
1st thing to check yourself is “Whether your profile is clear without any issues or not” ?
(Canadian or Schengen or Japan or Australian or Mexican or Any Valid US Visa).
Please make sure to have atleast one of the above mentioned visas before your travel to make your trip to Mexico hassle free especially if your profile has any issues & incase if something goes wrong.
1st Try to get one of the above visas, If your profile is GOOD WITHOUT ANY ISSUES,
If getting above visas is not possible then last option is border permit if your profile is good. (you can get it at border, we will guide you when you arrive to matamoros, Mexico – You just need your passport + I-797 document to get border permit – costs you 30$ )
(but, if your profile has issues(DUI, Issues with LAW etc.,), just border permit won’t help you during worst case scenarios as visa denial or something)
3) Do you have any previous issues with law ? (which are not expunged), any previous cases or anything, previous DUI (or) Anything that we should know ? please do let us know. so we can guide you accordingly.
NOTE : If you have DUI, You can go to Mexico City or Ciudad Juarez to attend visa interview as those locations has Medical Lab that US consulate requests for medical tests.
4) Have you scheduled Visa interview in India along with your family previously and you did not attend while your family attended (without cancelling your appointment) ? (In any previous years) ?
(Not Rescheduling)
5) Have you ever been sent back to home country ? (deported at any POE due to any unexpected circumstances ) ?
6) Any of your previous employers have been blacklisted due to any fraud ?
If NONE of above things apply to you, Then you are good to come to any location in Mexico for attending visa renewal stamping interview in Mexico.
